Illinois Driver's License Practice Exam

A driver should yield the right of way to a bicyclist when the bicyclist is approaching from the right to ensure the safety of all road users. In Illinois, as in many other places, the general rule of yielding to traffic approaching from the right is an important aspect of traffic safety laws. This means that if a driver is at an intersection or a situation where they might cross paths with a bicyclist approaching from their right, they need to be cautious and potentially yield to the bicyclist.

This practice reflects the importance of prioritizing the safety of vulnerable road users, like bicyclists, who may not have the same protections as motor vehicles. Yielding in this scenario also helps prevent accidents that could occur if both the driver and the bicyclist were to proceed without yielding.

Being attentive to the right-of-way rules encourages cooperative sharing of the road, which is crucial given the increasing number of cyclists on the roads. Understanding when to yield not only demonstrates good driving habits but also fosters a safer environment for everyone on the road.
